The world of Second Life can become tiresome for land owners who have to wander over all their territory returning objects that other residents have carelessly discarded, so many estate managers choose to turn on the "Autoreturn" feature, which sends items back into their owners inventory when those items do not belong to the same group that owns the land they are on.

While this is desirable in a lot of situations, there are others where it is not. In the case of the dragons, these situations could be when a resident wishes to hatch their dragon or wants to work on a dragon-related build. Many residents of Second Life do not have enough land to support complex building work in addition to their regular residences, and so areas are made available as a courtesy for residents to work in.

These areas are commonly referred to as Sandboxes. The sandbox usually either has autoreturn disabled completely, or has the return timer set for a number of hours rather than a few minutes. The parcel of land that encloses the sandbox is usually big enough to support a reasonable amount of prims, so that many residents can build side by side or complex projects can be undertaken. Daryth Kennedy very kindly provides a sandbox:

Please remember that these sandboxes are provided as a courtesy to all and are a privilege rather than a right. Please take a moment to read the rules:
